Emergency First Aid Text Pitcure

All companies/organisations must make sure, by law, that they have a sufficient number of personnel who possess a first aid qualification in order to fulfil their first aid needs at all times. Employers must ensure that their provision is ‘adequate and appropriate in the circumstances’. It is the employer’s responsibility to decide what the requirements of the organisation are by assessing any specific work hazards and ensuring that sufficient equipment, facilities and personnel are available to deal with the consequences of these hazards.

As part of each assessment, the HSE recommends organisations should consider things such as the nature of the work and the subsequent hazards and risks, the size of the organisation, work patterns and accident histories.

The recommended course duration is 1 day and topics covered include: the roles and responsibilities of the Emergency First Aider, assessing an incident, recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness and assisting a casualty who is suffering from injury and illness. The qualification is assessed via on-going oral questioning and practical demonstration.

The minimum contact hours for this qualification, excluding breaks should be for a minimum period of 6 hours over 1 day.

The course is is delivered with both practical and theoretical elements.
